LINPAC Legends take to the saddle for mammoth charity bike ride

A team of employees from LINPAC Packaging are preparing to cycle the length of Ireland in just four days to raise money for charity.

The five-man team, nicknamed the LINPAC Legends, will take part in the M2M Challenge, a 655km (407miles) route which runs from Ireland's most southerly point at Mizen Head, County Cork, to the country's most northerly point at Malin  Head, Co. Donegal.

Mark Rabbett, Technical Sales Manager, Graeme Robinson, Vice President & General Manager UK, Italy and Turkey, Adrian Lilley, Sales Director, James Diprose, Key Account Director, and Matthew Newman, Sales Executive, will be cycling alongside a team from the Hilton Food Group to raise money for the Mater Foundation, the official fundraising body of The Mater Misericordiae University in Hospital in Dublin, which wants to open a 24 hour Catheterisation Laboratory.

The event, which will see the two teams cycle approximately 110miles per day beginning on May 3, has been organised by the managing director of the Hilton Food Group, Frank McMyler – a friend and valued customer of LINPAC Packaging. He underwent a triple heart bypass at the Mater Hospital after a sudden heart attack, aged 40, in 2010, and took up cycling after his operation. He hopes the M2M Challenge will raise awareness of issues like stress and the benefits of a healthy lifestyle.

Graeme Robinson, from LINPAC Packaging, said: “We found out about Frank’s challenge and asked if we could get involved to support them . . . and so now we find ourselves looking ahead to four tough days of pedalling and probably many more days of soreness afterwards!

“No one knows when they will need the critical services of hospitals like the Mater, but when we do, this kind of life saving treatment can make all the difference.”

This is the second charity event the LINPAC Legends have taken up. In 2010, they completed the Romford Challenge – a three mile run, a 40km bike ride, a raft build and sail, assault course, archery challenge and another three mile run – all in under six hours. They helped raise more than £10,000 for the British Legion and Make A Wish Foundation.
