Big day for Rich Whiting at Featherstone Rovers testimonial

Following the disappointment of missing out on a bumper crowd and exciting pre-season run out against Castleford Tigers, Featherstone Rovers are now preparing for the final fixture of pre-season against Hull FC. Last year's Challenge Cup finalists visit the Big Fellas Stadium for former Rovers player Rich Whiting's testimonial fixture on Sunday.
With a large crowd expected, it's another opportunity for the team to challenge themselves against full time professionals and the club as a whole to gear up for the visit of a Super League team. As a keen sponsor and supporter of the Rovers LINPAC Packaging wishes them all the best on the big day.
Looking forward to the fixture, Rovers Head Coach John Bastian said "Obviously, we were disappointed that the Castleford Tigers fixture couldn't go ahead but it was the right call. I am firm believer in always looking forward. We now will be welcoming another Super League club to Post Office Road in the form of Hull FC.
"Hopefully supporters of both clubs will attend the game in large numbers to support Rich in his well-earned testimonial. He has been a fantastic servant at Hull FC and it is great to see a former Featherstone Rovers player perform consistently at a high level. He had the opportunity to develop and further his career at a top club and I think it's fair to say Rich has fulfilled many ambitions as a full time professional.
"For us at Featherstone Rovers, it provides us with an opportunity to test ourselves against a quality team and I fully expect the fixture to bring out the very best of our players on Sunday. It will be a great atmosphere as both teams are now at the business end of the pre-season schedule and making final preparations for the new season. This should be an interesting and entertaining spectacle for spectators.
"There is still time to look at different players and combinations but things are becoming clearer in terms of where people are strongest in a positional sense and most comfortable and effective. However, as always, there are positions still up for grabs and it is important that there is competition for places and positions. Whilst I appreciate it's a disappointment when not playing in the team, the most determined and driven players get their place back by working hard to regain their place. Competition is healthy and you make your own luck in this tough sport."
Prior to kick off, Rovers will be showing the 1983 Challenge Cup Final in the Cappers Bar at 1pm. Following the game, there will be a Happy Hour in the Cappers Bar between 7pm and 8pm.
